A specialist in the contemporary Arab world, Jihane Sfeir holds a doctorate in History, Societies and Oriental Civilisations from INALCO. Since 2009 she has been a lecturer-researcher at the Université Libre de Bruxelles where she teaches courses on the contemporary history of the Arab world, the Ottoman Empire and relations between Europe and the Arab world.
She is also responsible for the Contemporary Arab World Seminar (SMAC) and the Euro-Mediterranean University. Her main publications deal with Palestinian refugees, history and memory in the Arab world with a special focus on Lebanon. His current research focuses on the making, uses and practices of archives in the Arab world, and on the memory of the Lebanese civil war.
