After obtaining his bachelor degree in private law from the Faculty of Legal, Political and Social sciences of the Tunis University, Ashref undertook a Master in International Relations: Security Peace and conflict resolution, at Faculty of Political and Social Sciences, of the Université Libre de Bruxelles. His final dissertation focused on the electoral observation missions of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
 
 
While studying, Ashraf took up a number professional challenges. On the occasion of the elections of the Constituent National Assembly of Tunisia, he started to collaborate with l’Instance Supérieure Indépendante pour les Elections (ISIE-Tunisia) as legal advisor attached to the Information Center 1814. In 2012, he collaborated with Radio Kalima FM and other press agencies. Ashref also contributed to design and implement capacity-building projects and programmes,with non-profit organisations, international organisations and private law companies (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO, Centre International pour la Démocratie et l’Observation Electorale-CIDOE, Media Press).
 
 
In 2013, he took part in the AU election observation missions to the Republic of Djibouti and Algeria with the African Union, thus becoming the youngest electoral observer of this organisation. In 2015 he participated in electoral observation mission for the presidential elections to Haiti with the Organization of American States (OAS).
