Our Founder & Executive Director, Fabio Bargiacchi, had the pleasure of attending the ceremony naming a European Parliament building in Brussels after David Maria Sassoli.
A journalist born in Florence and former President of the European Parliament, Sassoli left a lasting legacy of humanity, solidarity and commitment to Europe. The ceremony honoured his contribution to the European project and his dedication to democracy and its institutions. For us at ECES, whose work is dedicated to supporting democracy in Europe and worldwide, this was a particularly meaningful tribute.
It was a pleasure to share this occasion with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and European Commissioner Raffaele Fitto. Also present were Romano Prodi, former President of the European Commission and former Italian Prime Minister; former Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta; Italian Democratic Party leader Elly Schlein; and Dario Nardella, former Mayor of Florence and Member of the European Parliament, alongside many other colleagues and friends.
Naming a European Parliament building after Sassoli ensures that his memory remains part of the institution he served. It was a special occasion to honour his life, his work and the values that bring us together as Europeans.
