ECES is proud to deliver its copyrighted training “Leadership and Conflict Management Skills for Electoral Stakeholders (LEAD)” to the senior management team of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission of Kenya (NCIC).
The LEAD training started 1st July and lasting until 8th June, is delivered online by ECES Senior Experts and Trainers, Steadman Harrison, Zefanias Matsimbe, Daria Paprocka and Sylvestre Somo.
The LEAD curriculum, developed by ECES Founder and Executive Director, Fabio Bargiacchi, in collaboration with Steadman Harrison, former GD of the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), integrates both the concepts of leadership and conflict management, providing a solid foundation for capacity-building among the different stakeholders engaged in the electoral process.
These Coaching Training marks the third series of activities under the Innov-Elections project, financed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and implemented with the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies of Pisa (SSSA) and the support of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).
ECES Senior Experts & Trainers are continuing delivering Innov-Elections Coaching Trainings to the Electoral Commissions Forum of SADC countries (ECF-SADC), engaging with more than 300 participants. The very first series of Coaching Trainings implemented in February involved the participation of representatives of the East African Community (EAC) as well as the Members of Parliament of the EAC Legislative Assembly (EALA).
The event kicked off with the initial remarks of Sub-Saharan Africa Deputy Director and former Italian Ambassador to Sudan, Ambassador Fabrizio Lobasso, followed by the opening speeches of ECES Founder and Executive Director, Fabio Bargiacchi, and of the NCIC Commission Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, DR. Skitter W. Mbugua.
By welcoming the participants during the opening session, Ambassador Fabrizio Lobasso underlined that:
“We started the electoral process training with ECES, Sant’Anna of Pisa and UNITAR one and a half year ago. We are experiencing now more and more success in terms of both quantity of the people trained and quality of the training itself, with an increasing number of international and regional organisations and single commissions interested in participating in these trainings. This for us is a maximum level of pleasure because it means that the intuition, we had almost two years ago was good and is still working.”
ECES Founder and Executive Director Fabio Bargiacchi, in his opening remarks said that:
‘‘We are thrilled to reflect on best practices, lessons learnt and exchange experiences with Kenya, in particular with the high-level personnel of our trusted partner, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), that have the mandate to implement the roadmap for peaceful elections 2022. This represents an important document stating the main lines of activities to be implemented in order to prevent electoral conflicts in the country. To reach this goal, we are having our best trainers and coaches who will share their own experiences they have matured in the last 11 years at ECES.”
The Commission Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of NCIC, DR. Skitter W. Mbugua, underlined the importance of such initiative for the Commission:
“I believe that this training is going to strengthen the capacities of the senior management team of NCIC in order to prepare and handle very well the next electoral process. I am happy to report that all the senior management team is here, namely the Head of Programme, the Head of Research, the Head of Civic Education, the Head of Legal Section, the Head of Investigation, the Head of Human Resource and the Head of Communication. I am sure that we are going to be very much committed and this is going to change the way we deliver our mandate. This is also going to ensure that we combine efforts with the key stakeholders in the electoral process so that we lead and deliver peaceful elections in 2022. I want to thank Fabio together with ECES team for the commitment to ensure that we work collaboratively and develop proposals, to ensure that we have a clear roadmap.”
