On 7-8 October 2020, ECES was honoured to participate in the Civil Society Dialogue Network Policy Meeting organised within the framework of the European Peacebuilding Liaison Office (EPLO).

The, meeting which was held online between the European Union policy-makers and some 16 civil society participants, focused on “Preventing Election-related Violence: Analysis from Civil Society”.

It aimed to :

  • Reflect on common forms of election-related violence across the electoral cycle;
  • Consider whether and how the risks of election-related violence have been exacerbated or have changed as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic;
  • Identify opportunities for preventive action considering both the full range of instruments at the EU’s disposal and best practices / lessons learnt by civil society actors.

Case studies of Bolivia, Ghana, Myanmar and Sudan informed the discussion.
