In the context of our European Union-funded project in Bolivia, we provided technical assistance to the Oruro Departmental Electoral Tribunal (TED) in organising preparatory sessions for the regional proposal on electoral reform.
The sessions brought together nearly 200 key stakeholders from Oruro, including members of the Departmental Assembly, territorial representatives to Bolivia’s National Legislative Assembly, human rights organisations and representatives of Indigenous and peasant peoples and nations.
Our technical assistance focused particularly on the methodological design of the sessions and the provision of logistical support, contributing to the successful organisation of the preparatory meetings and the development of a significant set of proposals for electoral reform.
These proposals will be presented and further discussed during the forthcoming regional workshop in Oruro.
The discussions focused primarily on issues of political representation, as well as the registration and legalisation of political platforms representing Bolivia’s Indigenous and peasant peoples and nations. Particular attention was given to ensuring the participation of Indigenous communities, with approximately 65 caciques, Apu Mallkus and Executive Secretaries representing more than a dozen ethnic groups from the region taking part in the sessions.
By bringing together institutional representatives, civil society organisations and Indigenous and peasant representatives, the sessions provided a space for different stakeholders to share their perspectives and contribute directly to the ongoing discussion on electoral reform.
