We are proud to announce the launch of our new project in the Union of the Comoros: "Renforcer la protection et la participation des Femmes, Jeunes et Société Civile en Union des Comores (Shawiri — "Solutions")".

The European Union kindly funds the project, which will last 36 months. The Shawiri project sees ECES as the primary applicant. It is implemented via the support of Maeecha (Mouvement Associatif pour l’Éducation et l’Égalité des Chances), EarthEcho Communication, and the French Red Cross as co-applicants.

The overall objective of the Shawiri project is to strengthen the social protection and citizen participation of women, youth, and their organizations as civil society organizations. Specifically, the project aims to:

  1. Develop a framework conducive to social protection and citizen participation of women, youth and people with disabilities.
  2. Strengthen the internal structuring of civil society on citizen participation and social protection of women and youth.
  3. Improve the governance, coordination and steering capacities of institutions in charge of gender and youth programs.

The project will be implemented via specific activities to improve local institutions' support for young people, women, and people with disabilities.

We are happy to be back in Comoros and to support the local institutions on these essential topics. ECES has worked in the Union of Comoros since 2014, mainly with the implementation of the EU-funded project "Projet d'Appui à la Crédebilité et à la Transparance du processus Electoral Union des Comores" (PACTE Comoros) in its three phases. Furthermore, ECES supported the Comorian civil society through several other minor activities.
