As part of the European Response to Electoral Cycle Support – Phase II (EURECS II) in Ethiopia, a joint initiative funded by the European Union and the Federal Republic of Germany, a comprehensive three-day LEAD-AI Training is being conducted at Bishoftu from November 19–21, 2025. This capacity-building activity is designed to strengthen the technical knowledge and practical skills of key electoral stakeholders on the emerging role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the Leadership Development (LEAD) framework and throughout the Electoral Cycle.
The training provides participants with a foundational understanding of AI concepts, tools, and their potential applications in electoral management. It further highlights how AI can support transparency, planning, risk analysis, communication, and decision-making within electoral institutions.
Over the course of the three days, participants engage in interactive sessions that illustrate how AI solutions can enhance leadership effectiveness by improving information processing, problem-solving, and scenario planning. The training also showcases how AI can be integrated into different phases of the electoral cycle—pre-election preparation, election operations, and post-election activities—thereby contributing to more efficient, data-driven, and citizen-responsive electoral processes. In addition, hands-on exercises introduce participants to practical AI applications such as content generation, message drafting, data summarization, and the use of advanced prompting techniques that support institutional communication and daily workflow.
A total of 27 participants are attending the training, representing the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), the Ethiopian Police University, and the Coalition of Ethiopian Civil Society Organizations for Elections (CECOE).
