Sucre, Bolivia — 15 January 2026. Within the framework of its mandate to provide technical assistance for institutional strengthening and electoral integrity, the European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES), through the PRO-Election Bolivia project, supported the organization of an interinstitutional meeting held in the city of Sucre between the Plurinational Electoral Body (OEP) and senior authorities of the judicial system. The meeting aimed to consolidate coordination mechanisms to ensure the proper conduct of the March 2026 Subnational Elections.
The meeting responded to a key institutional need in the current electoral cycle: to strengthen coordination among State institutions in order to safeguard the electoral calendar, reinforce legal certainty, and prevent potential interferences that could affect the normal development, continuity, and conclusion of the electoral process.
Participating institutions agreed on the importance of establishing clear channels for interinstitutional coordination, grounded in respect for the constitutional and legal framework, the principle of preclusion, and the political rights of citizens, political organizations, and candidates. The relevance of promoting technical cooperation and interinstitutional capacity-building actions was also highlighted, as a means to ensure timely and technically sound management of matters related to the subnational electoral process.
The support provided by ECES is consistent with its mandate to promote inclusive, predictable, and transparent electoral processes, through institutional capacity-building, electoral conflict-prevention, and the accompaniment of initiatives that foster coordination among key actors within the democratic system. In this context, the PRO-Election Bolivia project supports the Plurinational Electoral Body in the development of technical spaces that contribute to institutional certainty and public confidence in the electoral process.
ECES values this type of meeting as a strategic space for strengthening the rule of law and democratic governance and reaffirms its commitment to continue supporting the Plurinational Electoral Body and State institutions throughout the 2026 subnational electoral process, in the interest of peaceful, inclusive, and credible elections.
