Following an official request of the European Union, the European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES) carried out an Identification and Formulation Mission (IFM) in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso from January 22 to February 6 2015. The Mission included Fabio Barghiacci, the Executive Director of ECES, Dunia Ramazani, ECES Senior Electoral Expert and Camille Rouaud, ECES Programme Coordinator. ECES team met counterparts from the EU delegation, the Electoral Commission (CENI), UNDP, Electoral Assistance Division of the UN Department of Political Affairs (EAD), USAID, Embassy of Germany and Embassy of Denmark.

 

The main purpose of the mission was to identify and formulate a project of electoral assistance for the National Independent Electoral Commission of Burkina Faso within the framework of electoral processes of 2015-2016. Furthermore, the mission was aimed at identifying mechanisms for implementation and coordination between various technical and financial partners.

 

ECES will be supported by RECEF (Réseau des Compétences Electorales Francophones (Network of Francophone Electoral Expertise) in the design and implementation of the project for support of the electoral processes in Burkina Faso. The RECEF is a network of 22 French Election Management Organisations with sound expertise in electoral matters. 

 

The Mission will produce a project draft that will present the technical and operational support of the European Union to the electoral processes in Burkina Faso, delivered through ECES in partnership with RECEF.
