The European Centre for Electoral Support, a proud partner of the Electoral Commission of South Africa, congratulate and applaud the IEC for the conduct of the National Provincial elections 8 May 2019 (NPE19) including the Special Votes and overseas voting.

ECES and IEC entered into a partnership in 2016 formed around election conflict prevention at the time of the local elections. The partnership was formalised when the European Union morally and financially supported a specific project to prevent, mitigate and manage election-related conflict and potential violence around the NPE19. Closer to the NPE19, the PEV RSA project had implemented 42 activities, engaging over 1200 individual participants from all 9 provinces in South Africa.
This evening, ECES was present at the Result Orientation Centre (ROC) via its Project Coordinator Victoria Florinder alongside friends and colleagues at the Electoral Commission and the European Union and witnessed the proclamation of result ceremony. After keynote addresses by the Chief Electoral Officer, Mr. Simon Mamabolo, Chairperson Mr. Glen Mashinini, and His Excellency President Cyril Ramaphosa, Vice Chairperson Janet Love recognised the role played by the EU and ECES through the PEV RSA project in her closing speech that was aired live on SABC news across all of South Africa.

ECES is grateful to those who have been instrumental in achieving the PEV RSA project objectives such as the Commission and the provincial offices headed by the Provincial Officers, the nine Provincial Conflict Coordinators, the Projects Provincial Advisors, Leadership and Conflict Management trainers, administrative and operations staff, all led and guided under the overarching supervision of ECES Executive Director Fabio Bargiacchi and Vice President Ambassador Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira.
A special thanks must go to the PEV RSA co-coordinator, Senior Manager of Electoral Matters Mr. Abrahams whose vision helped the project navigate to make the most meaningful contribution it could with the resources available.
