ECES participates as observer to the 2nd A-WEB General Assembly and Conference in Dominican Republic

ECES (http://www.eces.eu/) have been invited to participate as observer to the World Electoral Management Bodies (EMBs) Association (A-WEB http://www.aweb.org/eng/main.do).

 

This 2nd General Assembly explores the roles and Challenges of Electoral Bodies to Guarantee the Integrity of Elections. The event is organized from the 18th to the 21st of August 2015 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

 

ECES is represented by Fabio Bargiacchi, Executive Director and Adolfo Cayuso, Senior Electoral Advisor. This high level event brings EMBs from the five continents, former politicians including four former presidents of the republic, representatives from international institutions and other organisations and think tanks engaged in electoral matters and renowned electoral experts.

 

The conference will cover the following cross-cutting issues:

• The necessary institutional set up for guaranteeing Election Integrity as for example the makeup and the composition of the electoral agencies, the Importance of EMB’s financial and budgetary autonomy Jurisdictional control of the electoral processes.
• The financing of politics and political parties, the effects and results of public and private financing and the necessary institutional settings to ensure Transparency and accountability.
• The responsibility, the presence and the roles of social communications media in regards to election processes
• The technological revolution and the use of new technologies for ensuring the accuracy of actions and processes, the promptitude of delivering results and the capacity of cope with complex and multifaceted issues.

The event provides a collaborative and open forum allowing participants to share experiences, practical knowledge and best practices and learn from peers.

 

From ECES perspective, this event constitutes an occasion to share our lessons from having, and being in the midst of implementing, election support projects in more than 35 of countries since 2011. During the conference, ECES’ representatives have interacted with electoral professional and organisations that are already known partners, friends and associates since our early years, while making new contacts and broadening our network both in geographic and thematic scope.

 

Surely, this occasion will result in new ideas being born and new partnerships being forged.
