Fabio Bargiacchi, Founder and Executive Director of ECES speaks ahead of this year’s Paris Peace Forum which holds from 11 – 13 November 2021. Recall that in 2020, ECES’ EURECS methodology, also implemented in our Ethiopia projects, that was selected as 1 of 10 projects, out of about 850 proposals, globally received from states, international organisations, NGOs, foundations, to benefit from the Scale Up Intiative of the PPF.
With this selection, ECES has been receiving a 12-month customised support from the Paris Peace Forum, through monthly workshops, targeted advice and follow-up in policy and advocacy, communication, partnerships, among others. Many thanks to Senior mentors Stefano Manservisi and Jean-Marie Guéhenno for their advice and support.
In this year’s PPF, ECES will have the opportunity to illustrate and launch its updated and improved EURECS methodology. It will include an important component of electoral mediation in peace processes, which is paramount to mitigate and prevent electoral conflicts.
ECES has co-developed a methodology on “Peace Mediation for Electoral Processes” which is the first practical contribution to guide mediation and electoral support actors on opportunities and risks to support-, fund-, or conduct peace mediation in electoral processes.
ECES’ projects emerged successful in the Scale Up Intiative of the PPF 2020 as a result of the following:
- Quality of the project
- Importance and relevance of the project to current global governance issues
- Feasibility of the project or its potential for progress
- Level of actual support
- Diversity of origin and of organisation
