Launched on 13 November 2015, the “Participate – Cabo Verde: Support to the Strengthening of the Civic Participation in Elections”, project ran for 8 months.

Financed by the EU and implemented by the CNE in cooperation with various CSOs, the project aimed at contributing to the organisation of more participatory elections in Cape Verde.

The ceremony of launching took place in the presence of, inter alia, the CNE Chairperson, Maria do Rosario Pereira Goncalves and the Ambassador of the EU in Cape Verde José Manuel Pinto Teixeira; ECES immediately after the eligibility, started the work by sending the ECES Electoral Expert and Board Member, Paulo Marques to support the implementation of activities. 

 

Its main objectives included:

  • Increase civic awareness to contribute to the reduction of abstention rate -especially among women and youth-
  • Provision of technical and operational support for civic awareness, in particular through training in the field of Leadership and Management of the Electoral Process
  • Capacity building of different stakeholders. 

 

ECES played an instrumental role in the implementation of the project by providing the CNE of Cape Verde with operational, logistical and budgetary control support as well as by organising capacity building trainings.

The LEAD trainings delivered by ECES contributed to the reinforcement of the capacities of a wide spectrum of electoral stakeholders. On one hand, LEAD trainings worked to reinforce the capacities of the high officials, namely, newly nominated Constitutional Court members, members of the CNE, main partners of CNE; while on the other hand targeting audience a wider segment of representatives of the society, namely, journalists, key delegates of the CNE, judges and civil society representatives.
