We are thrilled to announce our new partnership with the Electoral Commissions Forum of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries.

On the 5th of July we have signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ECF-SADC solidifying our commitment to working together to provide support to elections in the Southern African region and relevant electoral stakeholders, in the areas of Promotion of electoral integrity, Prevention, management and mitigation of electoral violence and Strenghening of institutional capacity.

ECF-SADC is an organization comprising electoral commissions from the following 15 SADC countries: Angola, Botswana, Zanzibar, DRC, Lesotho, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Eswatini, Tanzania and Zambia, actively participating in the collaborative efforts of ECF-SADC to strengthen electoral processes and promote democracy.

ECES will support ECF-SADC in various ways, including:

  • Providing technical assistance to ECF-SADC for implementing collaborative activities.
  • Offering training, consultation, and mentoring to achieve organizational development goals.

With our extensive electoral experience dating back to 2010, we are well-positioned to provide knowledge and support to ECF-SADC in their pursuit of strengthening democracy in Southern Africa.

With this MoU, we want to acknowledge the pivotal role played by the late Abbot Apollinaire Malu Malu in introducing ECES to ECF-SADC. As the co-founder of ECES alongside Fabio Bargiacchi, his leadership extended beyond ECES, as he also served as Vice President and President of ECF-SADC, laying the groundwork for a fruitful collaboration.

Since long ago, ECES and the ECF-SADC have been collaborating closely, and the Conference on Sustainable Financing for Elections in the SADC Region, held in Maputo, in November 2022, is a testament to this enduring partnership.

Organized by the IMD (Instituto para Democracia Multipartidaria) and ECF-SADC, and hosted by the Electoral Commission of Mozambique (CNE), this event represents one of many fruitful collaborations between ECES and ECF-SADC. Through our active participation, we had the opportunity to contribute with our expertise and insights on sustainable financing mechanisms for electoral processes, reinforcing our commitment to working hand in hand with ECF-SADC to strengthen democracy and electoral systems in the SADC region.

We are proud to contribute to the transparent and credible conduct of free and fair elections, as we firmly believe that a robust and effective democratic foundation is essential for societal development, encompassing economic, political, institutional-related aspects.
