A graduate in journalism, Dominique Weerts began his career as communications director for a company specialising in automatic identification. He then moved to the non-profit sector to restructure the youth organisation sector in Rwanda, Burundi and Haiti. Back in Europe, he was appointed to the Ministry of International Relations of the Walloon Region and the Brussels-Walloon Federation. Here he worked to finalise cooperation agreements between the two regional entities and their partners in many Caribbean countries in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. He then worked as executive director of the coordination network of French-speaking Belgian NGOs for development (NCCD).
