A "Leadership and Conflict Management for Electoral Stakeholders (LEAD)" training was held in Moroni, Union of Comoros, from 17th to 20th November 2014 within the “Projet d’Appui à la Crédibilité et la Transparence du processus Electoral en Union des Comores” (PACTE-Union of Comoros) fully funded by the European Union and implemented by ECES.

This training was attended by 36 electoral stakeholders from various organisations and institutions of the three islands (Grande Comores, Anjouan, Mohéli). The training was facilitated by ECES facilitators, Eliane Torres (Portugal), Deputy Head of programmes and capacity development advisor, Kabata Kabamba (DRC) planning and operation advisor, supported by Adolfo Cayuso (Spain), civic and voter education expert. This first module "Leadership and Conflict Management for Electoral stakeholders" within the IRIS-ELECTIONS program (composed by 14 Modules) aims to build capacity at the crossroads between election administration, conflict management and leadership.

As part of the training plan for supporting the CENI and other electoral stakeholders in the preparation of the forthcoming elections of Representatives of the nation, the municipal councilors and islands councilors in Union of Comoros, this LEAD training intended to prepare, not only the members of the electoral commission newly formed, but also other stakeholders who play key roles in the electoral process including the electoral court, media, security forces and civil society.

A particular emphasis was placed on the roles of each stakeholder in the success or failure of the electoral process, also in the prevention or mitigation of election-related violence and conflicts throughout the entire electoral cycle.
